Blue Shadows

I apologize for my mini-hiatus from the Blog, I've been busy working on upcoming projects, and planning for life after graduation. I cannot believe my time in Bradford is almost OVER! As much I complain about how much I don't like Bradford at times, the people here have made a huge impact in my life. In addition, I met my Mr. Right here, so Bradford may not be Howard but it will always have a place in my heart. I'm definitely going to be cherishing my lasts months here! Life is good right now! I'm Blessed.

COS SS2012 Campaign

I'm in love with COS (Collection of Style) at the moment. COS is owned by H&M, although I am not really surprised as H&M's higher priced pieces remind me a lot of COS. The clothes are chic, cool + sleek with clean Scandinavian touch. I am big on quality, aesthetics and fit. As I have a small top and bigger lower section, COS caters to me when it comes to fit as well. The only problem I have with COS is there are no stores in the North, thus I always have to travel to London to shop there, as I don't like buying clothing online at times unless I know my exact fit. In short, I see myself being a long term COS Girl.

French Connection

I spent one evening in NY with friends and the entire night I was surrounded by people speaking fluent French left, right, and center. It was very refreshing, I was thankful I took French in the past and it has warranted me to start brushing up on my skills.

We had dinner at a french restaurant (the name of the restaurant escapes me right now apologies) next to the Shrine in Harlem, the food and wine was marvelous. From there were tried to make the New York African Film Festival Premiere of 'Relentless' by Nigerian director Andy Amadi Okoroafor, sadly we didn't. But we made the party, and I met 1/2 of Les Nubians. Surprisingly I was not starstruck as I have been listening to Les Nubians since I was about 15 with their first album. Listening to 'Makeda' by the way NEVER gets old.

Being around positive, creative, and forward thinking individuals is always a breath of fresh air!

SuperNatural: Vintage Swoop

Whenever I get braids, I love trying various up dos that can serve as a protective style; however, I try not to do them very often so I don't put too much strain on my edges. My hair care regime for braids includes:
  • washing the braids every 2-3 weeks (a rinse through with conditioner; allowing it to air dry over night)
  • re-braiding my edges every 2-3 weeks
  • moisturizing my hair and adding a sealant i.e. castor oil or peppermint oil every 2-3 days or honestly when I remember.
Right now I am in love with peppermint oil. I can't really tell if it has made a significant difference in the speed of my hair growth, only time will tell. I wore this protective style this weekend and loved it. I am starting to love getting braids more and more. They are a way to quickly grow your hair out, but only if you maintain your edges. Once you see your hair pulling, take that that braid out and redo it, the tension on those hair follicles will be detrimental of you don't.

*Another tip for braids is to use human hair or soak your expressions, and other extensions in warm water to strip the hair of any synthetic fibers that can dry our hair out. I also soak my extensions when getting weaves. I try as much as possible to eliminate any factors that may lead to dry hair.

p.s. please excuse the lack of make up in these photos, I really don't feel like applying foundation these days, working on having flawless skin...
I hope everyone is having a great week and if you're having exams like me READ HARD so you pass!! I sound like a mother, don't I? Off to continue studying. Be safe and stay blessed!

Modern Biker

In New York my Ace and I had a blast, it was just so refreshing to be around someone that you mesh so well with. On this particular day we decided to get out of the house and go out we went to RK Bridal in the city before shopping. She tried on her bridesmaid dress for her cousin's wedding, while I took the opportunity to start my dress journey. I learned a few things about my desired dress style. I can't do ball gown dresses, they make me look humongous! I don't like sequins, diamantes, or lace on any wedding dress, I'd rather have banging jewelry. As the sales adviser said, 'I like all the drama without the bling'. I think I found a winner as I started crying in a particular dress. But I still have to do more browsing...

As usual I was the plain Jane and Ace was the Modern Biker chic, guys were breaking there heads looking at her all day!!!! I forgot how forward American Men are. Black, White, Hispanic whatever American men are forward, and I kind of missed that confidence in men. I don't miss however the rude cat calls! *thumbs down*
Dress + Tapestry Bag: Vintage, Leather Jacket: Miss Selfridge, Boots: Dolce Vita, Shades: Gucci

Yellow Trench: Vintage London Fog, Dress: Topshop, Snood: American Apparel, Sneakers: Miu Miu, Zara Bag, Bracelets: Topshop + NY Jewelry store.
One thing I have noticed in America is fruits and vegetables are expensive. Thus, when I saw this fruit and veg stand, I took the opportunity to buy many fruits as they are cheaper on the street. I miss NY can't wait to be back this summer.... I'll break out these sneakers again then. I know you're probably tired of them now, lol...
